Karabakh Interior Ministry: 170 bodies and remains found at the site of explosion near Stepanakert

YEREVAN, September 29. /ARKA/. As many as 170 bodies and remains have been recovered at the site of an explosion late on Monday at a fuel depot near Stepanakert, the Nagorno-Karabakh Interior Ministry's State Emergency Service reported today.

It said rescue teams working at the site of a powerful explosion at a fuel depot near Stepanakert continue the search.

;To this day, a total of 170 bodies and remains have been recovered and sent to the Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination. Personal belongings were transported to the operational headquarters," the Service said in a Facebook post.

It noted that the bodies and remains will be transported to Armenia for identification through DNA tests.

The explosion occurred as people lined up to fill up their cars at a petrol station outside the regional capital Stepanakert late Monday to drive to Armenia after Azerbaijan opened the only road linking the region with Armenia after 10-month blockade.

The cause of the blast remains unclear, but Nagorno-Karabakh presidential aide David Babayan said initial information suggested that it resulted from negligence, adding that sabotage was unlikely.-0-
