Azerbaijani troops again fire at Nagorno-Karabakh farmers
YEREVAN, March 27. /ARKA/. Azerbaijani troops opened fire at three residents of Sos village in Martyuni district of Nagorno-Karabakh, the local interior ministry reported.
It said the incident occurred at 10.10 am on March 26, when the residents were working in their vineyards.
On the same day, at around 11:05 a.m., two residents of another village of Taghavard also came under Azerbaijani troops’ indiscriminate fire, when working in their vineyards.
The interior ministry said Azerbaijani troops used firearms of various caliber. No one was injured, but once again local farmers appeared to be unable to cultivate their land.
Both incidents were reported to the Russian peacekeeping forces, who are deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh to protect its residents.
Russia on Saturday accused Azerbaijan of violating the Moscow-brokered cease-fire that ended a 2020 war, saying that on March 25 a unit of the armed forces of Azerbaijan crossed the line of contact in the district of Shushi, in violation" of the agreement of November 9, 2020.
The Russian defense ministry said in a statement that Russian peacekeepers were taking measures aimed at preventing escalation.
In a phone call with the President of the European Council Charles Michel last weekend, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed concern over Azerbaijan’s increasing aggressive rhetoric and provocative actions, which hinder efforts towards stability and peace. Michel was said to have reaffirmed his willingness to promote dialogue and peace in the region.-0-
