Yerevan City Hall discusses with Central Bank option to pay for transport with bank cards

YEREVAN, November 4. /ARKA/. The capital's mayor, Tigran Avinyan, announced that it will soon be possible to pay for public transport in Yerevan using bank cards.

"We are actively discussing this issue with our colleagues at the Central Bank. This payment option will be available during the current transition period (before the full implementation of the unified ticket system - ed.)," Avinyan noted at a meeting on Monday.

Noting that the partial implementation of the unified ticket system was initiated two months ahead of schedule, Avinyan expressed hope that it will be possible to transition to nearly 100% cashless payments by January 1, 2025.

"The latest developments indicate that, overall, Yerevan residents (adequately) accept the unified ticket system, albeit with its challenges, and this system clearly has no alternative. It’s not complicated; you just need to try it once, and since the payment methods are diverse, everyone will find the best option for themselves," Avinyan stated. 

He reminded that the full transition to a single ticket system must be completed by the end of December of this year.

About the unified ticket system

Currently, a trip on the bus or metro in Yerevan costs 100 drams, while a trip on the trolleybus costs 50 drams.

According to the draft amendment to public transport tariffs approved by the City Council of Elders, the following tariff plans will be implemented starting January 1, 2025: 

 - Single use per vehicle

90-minute ticket - 280-300 AMD for 3 trips

880 to 900 AMD for 1 day - 8 trips

4800-5000 AMD for 7 days - 30 trips

 - Unlimited trips

8800-9000 AMD for 30 days

23,600-24,000 AMD for 90 days

88,000-90,000 AMD for 365 days

- Multiple-use ticket - 2100-2200 AMD for 10 trips per month.

When purchasing any tariff package, citizens will be able to use all types of public transport. -0-
