Yerevan to create Traffic Management Center to implement advanced "smart" technologies
YEREVAN, November 18. /ARKA/. The establishment of a Traffic Management Center in Yerevan is planned to facilitate the adoption of smart transportation technologies, as announced by Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan.
"The ongoing rise in the number of vehicles in Yerevan, along with various related factors, presents a significant challenge for the authorities in managing traffic within the city. To effectively tackle these challenges and the existing issues in this domain, it is essential to introduce the necessary tools," Grigoryan remarked during a meeting of the Yerevan Council of Elders on Tuesday.
He indicated that a substantial portion of this toolkit will comprise digital solutions within the technological realm, and a corresponding municipal traffic management agency is proposed to be established for this purpose.
Grigoryan elaborated that two major initiatives are slated for implementation as part of the Center's operations in 2026.
"One of these initiatives involves the establishment of a public transport dispatching system. Reforms will persist, and it is crucial to ensure the effective organization of traffic flows and schedules," Grigoryan emphasized.
He also mentioned that the second initiative pertains to overall traffic management.
"The necessity for 'smart' traffic lights, thorough traffic flow analyses, and, in conjunction with technological solutions, the dependability of these analyses, as well as the comprehensive organization and management of traffic flows, have been topics of discussion on numerous occasions. The establishment of such an institution is long overdue," the deputy mayor asserted.
Grigoryan further revealed that the new agency will delegate several responsibilities to the municipal company Yerevantrans, which is anticipated to be dissolved subsequently.-0-
