YEREVAN, April 3. /ARKA/. The institution of exclusive ownership of one spouse is planned to be introduced in Armenia, announced Suren Tovmasyan, head of the RA Cadastre Committee.

"When spouses acquire residential real estate during marriage, they own it by right of ownership, and upon the death of one spouse, an inheritance is opened, and the heirs become joint owners along with the surviving spouse," Tovmasyan noted at a government meeting on Thursday.

According to him, the introduction of this institution will allow spouses to choose a type of right that will ensure the preservation of ownership rights for the surviving spouse after the death of one spouse, and after the death of the other spouse, the property will pass to the heirs.

Tovmasyan emphasized that this will ensure the life, safety, protection, and well-being of the surviving spouse, with inheritance issues being resolved only later.
