Sports funding in Armenia has more than quadrupled compared to 2018, exceeding 15 billion drams (approximately $39.7 million), announced RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
YEREVAN, March 16. /ARKA/. Sports funding in Armenia has more than quadrupled compared to 2018, exceeding 15 billion drams (approximately $39.7 million), announced RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan.
According to her, funding for mass sports has increased more than 25-fold during this period, reaching 5.5 billion drams (approximately $14.6 million).
In a Facebook video, the minister noted that as part of the country's sports infrastructure development program, approximately 100 sports facilities were under construction by 2025, seven of which bear the names of famous Armenian athletes.
In particular, the Simon Martirosyan Weightlifting Hall in the Jrarat community of the Armavir region has been completed. The Artur Aleksanyan Children's and Youth Greco-Roman Wrestling School in Gyumri, the Hrant Shahinyan Children's and Youth Olympic Sports School of Gymnastics and Acrobatics, and the Artur Abraham Sports School are currently under construction.
Sports schools named after professional boxer Vik Darchinyan, wrestlers Roman Amoyan and Malkhas Amoyan, weightlifter Yuri Sargsyan, weightlifter Nazik Avdalyan, and freestyle wrestler Stepan Sargsyan are also planned.
