Residents of Armenia's six provinces barely feel GDP growth
YEREVAN, January 29. /ARKA/. Residents of six out of ten Armenian marzes (provinces) practically do not feel the benefits of GDP growth, head of the National Union of Employers Gagik Makaryan said today.
"They have such a low development potential that they practically do not feel the developments taking place around them. These provinces are Aragatsotn, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, Lori, Tavush and Shirak.
According to Makaryan, capacity building for these provinces means not only creation of infrastructure, roads, schools and kindergartens, but also a dramatic development of education (establishment of various educational institutions), health care, services, as well as cultural and leisure centers.
He explained that a region is considered underdeveloped if there are problems in at least one of these areas.
The Armenian government's forecast for economic growth in 2024 is 7%. Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan said earlier that the country’s economy is expected to grow by 8.3-8.5% in 2023, and GDP per capita will amount to $8,280.--0-
