YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. Armenia's strategic goal should be to ensure 100% irrigation of agricultural land, stated RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"Investments in the water sector should be largely directed toward the development of irrigation technologies," Pashinyan noted, speaking about institutional reforms in water and land resource management.

According to him, the next strategic objective in the water sector is to ensure 24-hour water supply in all populated areas of the country.

"That is, all populated areas without exception must have 24-hour drinking water. Our long-term programs must be built precisely on this logic," Pashinyan stated, emphasizing that resolving these issues is impossible without changing public attitudes toward water.

Earlier, the Armenian water supply operator, Veolia Jur CJSC, announced a 17-hour water supply schedule for some consumers in Yerevan and the regions of Armenia from May 1 to September 16 of this year. Following this, RA Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan stated that there would be no changes to the water supply schedule in Armenia as a result of government intervention.

Earlier, the Armenian Prime Minister stated that the consolidation and management of water resources will be Armenia's top priority over the next five years.

"Until these 220,000 hectares of land are irrigated and we transition to a new culture of water management, this is unrealistic," Pashinyan said during government hour in parliament.

Pashinyan also proposed abandoning water releases from Lake Sevan and called Armenia's water resource management ineffective.

In October 2025, projects to build five new reservoirs in Armenia, with a total cost of approximately 40 billion drams, were discussed at the 7th meeting of the Public Investment Committee.
