YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. The issue of tariffs for countries trading with Iran will be discussed during US Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Armenia, said Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan.
Earlier, on February 7, media reported that Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing for higher tariffs on imports from countries that continue to trade with Iran.
"This issue will definitely be discussed. In 2025, (Armenia's) exports to the US amounted to approximately $50 million, and, accordingly, (if such tariffs are introduced), some goods could significantly lose their competitiveness," Papoyan noted at a briefing on Monday.
According to him, at this point, the discussion is solely about press publications. "We'll see how the implementation proceeds. Accordingly, discussions will be held with partner countries," the minister emphasized.
A US delegation led by Vance will visit Armenia on February 9-10. A meeting between the US Vice President and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is planned.
According to the US State Department, the purpose of Vance's visit to Armenia and Azerbaijan is to promote US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives and support the TRIPP (Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity) project.
Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan previously announced that new developments would be recorded during Vance's visit that would expand the strategic partnership between Armenia and the US, particularly in nuclear energy, transportation, mineral extraction, high technology, and security.
