YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s energy system is financially stable, Armenian Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan said Wednesday as met with representatives of Moody’s international rating agency, the ministry’s press office reports.
The Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC changed its owner in autumn 2015. Tashir Group owned by Samvel Karapetyan, Russia’s billionaire of Armenian descent, bought two subsidiaries of Russian Inter RAO UES in Armenia – the Electric Networks of Armenia and the Hrazdan Thermal Power Plant.
Zakharyan told Moody’s representatives that water losses reduced by 11.2% since then.
He said that measures are now being taken to prolong the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant’s service life and that Armenia will receive $270 million from Russia as a loan and $30 million in grants for that.
Along with that, he said, Armenia intends to build a new 600-megawatt nuclear power unit until 2027 and is now searching for investors.
The minister said that two new thermal plants are planned to be built in Yerevan and Vanadzor. In his words, private investments are needed for that.
He also spoke about measures to be taken as part of the long-term strategic program of energy system development until 2036.
A 200-megawatt wind power plant, 40-to-50-megawatt solar plants and 120-megawatt hydro power plants are planned to be built as well.
Zakharyan said this would make it possible to reduce the impacts imported energy carriers have on domestic prices.
He also spoke about construction of Iran-Armenia and Armenia-Georgia power transmission lines. ---0---
