‘We hope that before the end of this year we will decide whether the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will grant a free trade regime to Iran this year or will do it later,’ Veronika Nikishina, minister for trade in the Eurasian Economic Commission, the executive body of the EEU, told reporters in Yerevan today.
YEREVAN, September 20. /ARKA/.
According to her, the sides are negotiating currently an accord on the establishment of a temporary free trade regime.
"We have several months ahead to identify all possible benefits of switching to this trade regime with Iran, all possible obligations and terms, and to present to our five presidents a final decision in December - either we get a mandate to start accelerated negotiations next year on free trade regime with Iran, or we will be asked to think it over," Nikishina said.
"We are ready to create a free trade for Iranian goods, but all five members of the EEU want a similar access for their national products to Iran in the same volumes,’ Nikishina said.
"The volume of preferences should be symmetric, so that all parties receive benefit. Consultations are conducted very intensively with the next round scheduled for the beginning of October. We are optimistic about reaching a final agreement,’ Nikishina said. -0-
