YEREVAN, March 5. /ARKA/. In January 2026, compared to January 2025, the birth rate in Armenia decreased by 11%, and the death rate by 10.1%. This is evidenced by data published by the Statistical Committee.

Birth Rate

A decline in the birth rate has been recorded in Armenia since the beginning of 2024.

It is noted that 2,393 babies were born in January 2026, while in January 2025 there were 2,688 newborns.

Moreover, 29 stillbirths were registered during the reporting month, which is 12.1% less than in the same month of 2025.

The viability rate—the ratio of births to deaths—was 98.4%, compared to 99.4% in January of last year.

Mortality

In January of this year, 2,432 people died in Armenia, compared to 2,705 in January of last year. More than half of these deaths (53.9%, or 1,312 people) were due to circulatory diseases, a 9% decrease from January 2025.

Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death (19.2%, or 466 people, a 4.1% decrease). Other causes of death also included respiratory diseases (11.4% or 277 people, a decline of 9.5%), diseases of the digestive system (5% or 122 people, a decline of 12.2%), external causes (2.2% or 53 people, a decline of 22.1%), diseases of the endocrine system (2.1% or 50 people, a decline of 25.4%), and infectious diseases (0.9% or 22 people, a decline of 4.3%).
