YEREVAN, April 6. /ARKA/. In Armenia, the birth rate increased by 0.6% in January-February 2026, compared to January-February 2025, while the death rate decreased by 10.7%. This is evidenced by data published by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).

Birth Rate

A decline in the birth rate was recorded in Armenia from the beginning of 2024 to January 2026.

It is noted that 4,912 children were born in the first two months of 2026, while 4,883 were born in the first two months of 2025.

Moreover, 57 stillbirths were registered during the reporting period, which is 8.1% less than in the same period of 2025.

The viability rate—the ratio of births to deaths—was 110.1%, compared to 97.7% in January-February of last year.

Mortality

In the first two months of this year, 4,460 people died in Armenia, compared to 4,997 in the first two months of last year. More than half of these deaths (53.1%, or 2,366 people) were due to circulatory diseases, a 12.2% decrease compared to January-February of 2025.

Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death (20.4%, or 912 people, an increase of 2.1%). Other causes of death also included respiratory diseases (10.3% or 461 people, a 16% decline), digestive diseases (5.2% or 230 people, a 8.4% decline), external causes (2.7% or 122 people, a 7.6% decline), endocrine diseases (2.2% or 98 people, a 10.1% decline), and infectious diseases (0.9% or 39 people, a 18.7% decline).
