YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. Armenia plans to build four more solid waste landfills, one of which will serve Yerevan. This was announced by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan while presenting a report on the department's activities in 2025 to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Khudatyan recalled that a similar facility, created as part of the "Solid Waste Management of the Kotayk and Gegharkunik Regions" program, has already been operating in the city of Hrazdan since July 2025.
"The landfill serves 10 communities (71 settlements) with a population of approximately 300,000, receiving approximately 100 tons of waste daily," the minister noted. According to him, the program is designed for 16 communities, and the system is currently approximately 70% operational.
In December 2025, the Yerevan Municipality announced an open, two-stage competition to select an investor for the construction and subsequent operation of a mixed municipal waste processing plant. It is planned to be established on the site of the Nubarashen landfill on the outskirts of the city.
Proposals for the construction of a new landfill and processing plant were developed in collaboration with partners (the EBRD and the World Bank).
