Food prices in Armenia increased by 2.5% in January

Prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5.9% in January 2026 compared to January 2025, and by 4.3% month-on-month, according to a report by the Statistical Committee (Armstat).
YEREVAN, February 9. /ARKA/. Prices for food products and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 5.9% in January 2026 compared to January 2025, and by 4.3% month-on-month, according to a report by the Statistical Committee of Armenia (Armstat).
Bread and cereal prices increased by 3.8% year-on-year in January and by 0.1% month-on-month. Wheat groats increased by 5% (a 1.1% increase month-on-month), flour by 5.5% (a 0.4% increase), spelt by 6.5% (a 3% increase), pasta by 8.2% (a 3% increase), and buckwheat by 10.2% (a 0.6% increase). Meat prices increased by 8.5% year-on-year in January, and by 0.4% month-on-month. Poultry prices increased by 4.5% (up 0.2% month-on-month), beef by 12.8% (up 0.7%), pork by 13.1% (up 0.1%), and lamb by 14.1% (up 0.4%).
Fish and seafood prices increased by 15.2% year-on-year in January, and decreased by 0.1% month-on-month. Frozen hake prices increased by 24.6% during the reporting period, down 1.9% month-on-month.
Dairy, Cheese, and Egg prices increased by 8% in January, and by 1.6% month-on-month. At the same time, condensed milk prices increased by 1.9% (up 0.6% month-on-month), fresh milk by 5.4% (up 0.9%), cheese by 6.4% (up 0.6%), cottage cheese by 6.6% (up 0.1%), matsun by 6.7% (up 0.1%), sour cream by 8.9% (up 0.5%), and eggs by 11.7% (up 3.5%).
Products in the "Oils and Fats" category increased in price in January by 6.3% year-on-year and by 0.3% month-on-month. Meanwhile, butter prices increased by 7.3% (up 0.7% month-on-month), margarine by 9.8% (up 1.2%), and sunflower oil by 6.5% (up 0.2%).
Fruit prices in January increased by 4.5% year-on-year and by 11% month-on-month.
In the "Vegetables" group, prices in January decreased by 2.9% year-on-year and increased by 21.7% month-on-month.
"In January 2026, compared to December 2025, the weighted average inflation in the "Vegetables" and "Fruits" groups was 17.57%. These groups, which account for 8.55% of the consumer basket, contributed to a 1.46 percentage point increase in overall consumer prices during this period," the report states. In the "Sugar, Fruit Puree, Honey, Syrups, Chocolate, and Sugar Confectionery" category, prices increased 7.9% year-on-year in January, and 1% month-on-month. Sugar and granulated sugar increased in price by 2.2% (up 0.7% month-on-month), chocolate by 12.7% (up 2.1%), and confectionery by 2.2% (down 0.1%).
Prices in the "Coffee, Tea, and Cocoa" category increased by 8.8% in January of this year compared to January of last year, and by 0.8% compared to December of last year. Coffee increased in price by 9% (up 0.4% month-on-month), tea by 2.6% (up 2.7%), and cocoa by 36% (up 3.8%). Prices for mineral and spring water, as well as bottled drinking water, increased by 4.1% year-on-year in January and by 0.6% month-on-month.
Alcoholic beverages increased by 6.5% in January compared to January and by 0.9% compared to December. Vodka increased in price by 7.9% year-on-year in January (up 1% month-on-month), wine by 3.3% (up 0.7%), and beer by 3.2% (up 0.5%).
Tobacco prices increased by 10.8% year-on-year in January (up 2.3% month-on-month).
