Corruption cases being investigated in Ministry of Economy of Armenia
YEREVAN, January 31. /ARKA/. It emerged today that Armenia's Investigative Committee officers visited the Economy Ministry building for 'investigative actions.'
The news first appeared in the telegram channel of the ministry, stating "the importance of fighting corruption, but also the observance of the presumption of innocence".
This was followed by reports that Deputy Minister of Economy Ani Ispiryan, who was dismissed January 30 by Prime Minister's decree, was detained by law-enforcers.
In December 2023, Ispiryan was elected Char of the Board of Directors of the Armenian National Interest Fund (ANIF). According to unconfirmed reports, the National Security Service and the Investigative Committee are conducting searches not only in the office of Ispiryan, but also in 15 other addresses as part of two criminal proceedings.
Journalists in the parliament asked Economy Minister Vahan Karobyan about the reasons for the seacrhes in his ministry. According to the minister, the investigative bodies can conduct actions in the state administration mainly in corruption cases.
"I don't know who visited the ministry: employees of the National Security Service or some other agency," Kerobyan said.
He was asked about the coincidence of two facts - Ispiryan's dismissal and the investigative actions it the Ministry.
"In my opinion, it's a coincidence. Ani informed us 1.5 months ago that her husband got a job in the Netherlands and that they were going to move to that country," the Minister said. -0-
