Central Bank Governor Warns of Economic "Overheating" in Armenia
YEREVAN, February 3. /ARКА/. Martin Galstyan, the Chairman of the Central Bank of Armenia, announced today that there are indications of economic overheating in the nation.
He made this remark while responding to questions from journalists about whether the sustained high growth in consumer lending (around 20%), along with a wage increase of about 6% in November, indicates a rising credit burden and the potential for economic overheating.
Galstyan emphasized that the Central Bank is vigilantly observing the ongoing economic developments. "If needed, we will implement macroprudential tools, specifically the buffer policy," he stated.
He also mentioned that discussions within the Central Bank regarding adjustments to the buffer levels have been quite vigorous.
"Currently, a decision has been reached to keep the buffers at their existing level, considering the condition of the economic cycle," the Central Bank chairman concluded.-0-
