YEREVAN, November 9. /ARKA/. The Armenian-Moldovan trade surged by 33% in the first 9 months of 2017, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said at a joint briefing today with the visiting Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon.

"Although Armenia’s trade with Moldova grew by 33% from the year before and Armenian exports to Moldova more than doubled, we can not be satisfied with this and it is necessary to support businesses to give this growth trend a stable character," Sargsyan was quoted as saying by his press service.
According to him, along with the traditional areas of cooperation, the countries need to pay more attention to high technology and innovation.

"We expect that the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be promoting the full range of the bilateral economic agenda, including its diversification and launch of new interesting projects. We have agreed to hold a meeting of the commission no later than next spring. We discussed also cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian fields," Sargsyan said.

He noted that during the talks attention was also paid to foreign policy issues. ‘We welcome and support the desire of the Republic of Moldova for closer cooperation with integration associations," Sargsyan said.

He said Armenia is really interested in ensuring that citizens and business entities of the country get new opportunities to implement joint business, scientific and cultural projects.

"We expect that after today’s talks contacts between our countries will develop even more actively. Armenia and Moldova have good prospects for cooperation. There are all conditions for it, and most importantly, the desire of the peoples of our countries to strengthen friendship, trust, cooperation and, of course, creative partnership," Sargsyan said. -0-
