YEREVAN, April 3. /ARKA/. The Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant in Armenia has been temporarily disconnected from the grid since April 1 in connection with the plant's operation extension program, announced David Khudatyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
"Work under the program will last approximately 5 months. Most likely, in 2026, our solar power plants will produce as much electricity as the Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant would have produced if it had been operational. These figures will certainly be comparable," Khudatyan noted at a government meeting yesterday.
Earlier, on March 18, the Armenian government allocated a budget loan of 63.2 billion drams to the ANPP for a further extension of its operation until 2036, which will last approximately 5 months. During this period, the nuclear power plant will also undergo major scheduled preventive maintenance (SPM).
