Armenia Strengthens Climate Protection: Focus on Water and Ecosystems
YEREVAN, July 25. /ARKA/. Armenia attaches great importance to increasing the efficiency of water use, introducing innovative technologies and implementing drip irrigation programs. This was stated by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at an international environmental conference in the Altai Territory of the Russian Federation.
According to him, this is why the Armenian government approved a program for adaptation to climate change in the field of water resources for 2022-2026.
“A new draft law of the Republic of Armenia “On Climate” has been developed, which is aimed at creating a legal and institutional basis for the development and implementation of the climate agenda in the country. In response to national needs and international commitments, in May 2021, the government approved a national action program for adaptation to climate change and a list of measures for the period 2021-2026,” Pashinyan noted.
Pashinyan stated that the country's mountain ecosystem is extremely vulnerable to climate change, droughts, floods, and floods are becoming more frequent.
"Although Armenia's carbon dioxide emissions are extremely insignificant, on a global scale our country is one of the most affected by global warming. The consequences of climate change are expressed in the accelerated melting of glaciers, reduced precipitation, landslides, soil erosion and desertification. The lack of water resources leads to a decrease in the efficiency of pastures and arable lands, and a reduction in forest resources," Pashinyan said.
