Armenia's economic dependence can be used to interfere in internal affairs - FIS report
YEREVAN, January 23. /ARKA/. In 2025, external actors are likely to continue using Armenia's economic and logistical dependence as a tool for political influence, according to the annual report of the Foreign Intelligence Service (FIS) of Armenia.
The report notes that, as 2025 is an election year, some countries will likely seek to more overtly and visibly leverage Armenia’s economic dependence for political influence, interference in internal affairs, and to sway public opinion.
"In an effort to destabilize the region and negatively affect public sentiment, entities pursuing their own strategic interests will attempt to create artificial logistical obstacles, unnecessary administrative complexities, and arbitrary interpretations of contractual obligations," the intelligence service warns.
The FIS further highlights that, under these conditions, efforts to identify and utilize opportunities to diversify Armenia's economic interdependencies may serve as a means to counterbalance harmful external pressure and ensure economic development.
