Armenia prioritizes synchronization of its power grid with four neighboring countries - Minister
YEREVAN, February 3. /ARKA/. The synchronization of Armenia's power grid with four neighboring countries is a key priority, not just from a commercial perspective, but also for maintaining the stability of the power grid, according to Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan.
At a press conference discussing the outcomes of 2025, the minister highlighted Armenia's goal to synchronize its power grid with all neighboring countries (Georgia, Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey).
"This is a priority for us not only regarding electricity imports and exports, but also because a synchronous connection enhances the stability of the power grid. Currently, Armenia's power grid positively influences the stability of the grids in Georgia and Iran, and vice versa," the minister stated during the press conference on Tuesday.
Khudatyan mentioned that there are no technical barriers to this synchronization, and Armenia is prepared to advance the process, although he did not provide a specific timeline.
He also noted that last year, during a visit to Turkey, he met with the energy minister, who confirmed the technical feasibility of the project.
Regarding Iran, Khudatyan indicated that energy cooperation is progressing smoothly: last year, Armenia continued to receive natural gas in exchange for reliable electricity supplies to Iran.
"While the energy systems of Armenia and Iran are not synchronized, the existing interconnection allows for the import and export of electricity and currently enhances the resilience of both countries' energy systems," Khudatyan added.
Discussing the third Iran-Armenia power transmission line that is under construction, Khudatyan expressed optimism that the project will be completed by 2026, connecting the power line to the Armenian grid and increasing electricity exports to Iran.-0-
