YEREVAN, December 25. /ARKA/. At a meeting on Thursday, the Armenian government decided to impose a temporary ban on the export of certain goods to non-EAEU countries.

The six-month prohibition applies to the export of various agricultural products, such as wheat, millet, barley, corn, buckwheat, sunflower seeds, and sunflower oil. This decision aims to safeguard Armenia's food security and stabilize the economy.

The justification for this measure indicates that domestic production of these items falls short of meeting local demand, which is largely satisfied through imports.

Additionally, the government has opted to impose a six-month ban on the export of whitefish caviar. This decision stems from the necessity to sustainably manage bioresources and protect biodiversity in Lake Sevan.

It is anticipated that this will enhance the ecological balance of Lake Sevan, safeguard the biodiversity of the lake's ecosystems and its watershed, promote the sustainable use of bioresources, maintain stable whitefish populations, and support commercial fishing.

On October 9, the Armenian government decided to raise the commercial whitefish catch limit from Lake Sevan by 620 tons, increasing the allowable limit for the current season to 1,123 tons prior to the fishing ban, which commenced on November 20 and will continue until February 1.-0-
