Armenia continues to work with partners on copper smelter construction project – Papoyan
YEREVAN, February 6. /ARKA/. The construction of a copper smelter in Armenia is always on the agenda, stated RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan.

"We continue to work with all our partners, both local and international, with manufacturers and industry specialists," Papoyan noted at the final press conference on Friday.

According to him, the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine is linking the opening of the copper smelter with the development of a new mine, indicating that production volumes should increase.

"We believe that even the existing volumes should be sufficient for us to have a longer value chain. This is our position," Papoyan said.

In 2023, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that the Ministry of Economy was negotiating with at least three investors for a project to build a new copper smelter in Armenia.

In 2024, at a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Armenia Nilakshi Saha Sinha, Papoyan proposed considering the option of building a copper smelter in Armenia using advanced Indian technologies.
