Armenia Can Become a Bridge Between Continents Thanks to Macroeconomic Stability and Digital Transformation – Central Bank Governor
YEREVAN, April 8. /ARКА/. For Armenia, the pressing question is how to become a true hub, a bridge for markets, ideas, and opportunities between continents, stated Central Bank Governor Martin Galstyan.
"The answer depends on two things that build on Armenia's strategic strengths: ensuring a solid foundation of macroeconomic stability and building a financial and digital architecture that allows these opportunities to flourish," he said at the Doing Digital 2026 forum, held under the slogan "Connecting Platforms and Economies."
Galstyan noted that, amid growing global uncertainty, Armenia's greatest strategic asset, its defining trademark, must be sustainable macroeconomic stability.
"A strong environment of macroeconomic stability is the most important foundation for improving the long-term well-being and living standards of people in our country." […] The Armenian banking system is adequately capitalized and maintains sufficient liquidity buffers, while the non-performing loan ratio is at historically low levels. These achievements reflect sustained investments in our economic policy framework and institutional capabilities, which will enable us to maintain macroeconomic stability regardless of the challenges that lie ahead,” he emphasized.
Speaking about the second imperative—creating the right financial and digital architecture and infrastructure—the Central Bank Governor noted that this allows the private sector to assume the role of innovation and positions Armenia as a true bridge for ideas and opportunities between markets and continents.
“We have taken significant steps towards building a more innovative, dynamic, and future-proof economy and financial system. The Central Bank’s close partnership with the government and the private sector is essential in building a digital society in the Armenian economy, based on the complementary pillars of digital identity, cybersecurity, data interoperability, and data management,” he said.
In this regard, Galstyan added that this institutional architecture provides the private sector with precisely the type of foundation needed for innovation and the implementation of new digital solutions that will transform our society and economy.
