YEREVAN, November 15. /ARKA/. The idea of establishment of Eurasian Union should not become a regular PR, said scientific worker of the Institute of Political and Social Studies of Black Sea region Andrey Areshev.
At the beginning of October, Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin wrote in his article for the newspaper “Izvestia” that Customs Union and United Economic Zone established by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will become a basis for the creation of Eurasian Union: not a new USSR and replacement of CIS, but an effective “link” between Europe and Asian-Pacific region with close coordination of economic and currency policy.
“It is yet an expressed idea which should have its certain outlines and forms”, said Areshev on Monday to the journalists in Yerevan.
He said that it is not the first idea of integration of the countries formed in the territory of the former USSR 20 years ago. There were different ideas, including Union State of Russia and Belarus “which showed, to put it mildly, their insufficient efficiency” and Customs Union which is a kind of new phase of integration.
He noted that Eurasian Union, first of all is understood as a union based on general economic interests. “However, there should be also another idea, something like a civilized idea under the basis of such a union”, said Areshev.
Today it is assumed that there should be an idea which, besides economic calculations should unite the republics of former USSR.
“Naked economic calculation, can turn, as we know, into this or other way... Economic schemes and preferences are different and not always can Russia propose something beneficial than western partners and large companies which also actively master post-Soviet space”, said the expert.
Now the idea of Eurasian Union is in the process of discussions. “I would not like it to be a regular PR which will be forgotten the next day after the elections. It would have been a negative scenario which ultimately will push the prospect of serious integration in the post-Soviet territory. It is not serious to constantly play up the same idea under different sauces for 15-20 years and do nothing to implement it”, said Areshev. —0—
