Will Russian Pobeda continue operating flights from Moscow to Armenia?
YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. Russian low-cost airline Pobeda (a division of Aeroflot), which  operates  direct flights from Moscow to Armenia's second-largest town of Gyumri, offers the most affordable way of travelling between the two countries. The maiden flight was carried out in December 2016.

At the moment, Pobeda operates 10 flights a week from Moscow to Gyumri (from there transfer to the Armenian capital of Yerevan is offered). The airline planned seven flights a week in the winter season. However, on Wednesday, in an interview with TASS, a source from the airline said that it was suspending flights from the winter season. According to the source, the airline decided to suspend flights due to repeated cases of insufficient fueling at the Gyumri airport.

"Unfortunately, there are repeated cases of insufficient fueling at the Gyumri airport. Pobeda repeatedly appealed to the airport management to find out what is going on. However, the airport’s measures are insufficient and the refueling company continues such practices. Pobeda will conduct all flights to Gyumri scheduled for the summer season, so as not to let down their customers, but flight ticket sales to this destination as of winter season have been suspended," the source was quoted as saying.

In the meantime, the head of Armenia's Civil Aviation Committee Tatevik Revazyan said that the problems with the airline have been resolved and flights will continue. She added that representatives of the Civil Aviation Committee and the airline will meet soon to look into the  issues, which are of  concern to Pobeda, including the issue of the alleged insufficient fueling

In an interview with Armnews.FM , a spokesperson for the airline Yelena Selivanova, presented its official position, saying the airline has repeatedly appealed to the airport administration with a request to rectify the situation. However, the measures taken at the airport are not enough.

According to her, until the end of the summer season, all scheduled flights to Gyumri will be operated, but ticket sales will be suspended from the winter season.

"Insufficenmt fuelling is not just a misunderstanding, but a serious security problem," the company's spokeswoman said.

Selivanova said that Pobeda would continue flying to Gyumri only if it received guarantees from the airport that there would be no such problems in the future, and payments for fuel would be compensated.

Novosti Armenia news agency contacted a representative of the airport, however, at the time of publication of the report , no clarification had been received on the situation. -0-
