U.S. Ambassador to Armenia visits Amulsar gold mine
YEREVAN, August 18. /ARKA/. U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien, accompanied by the head of Jermuk community, visited today the Amulsar gold mine in Vayots Dzor province. The mine is being developed by Lydian Company, the U.S. Embassy in Armenia reported.
The embassy said the Amulsar program is one of the largest investment programs in Armenia, and 'we are proud to see Western mining standards being implemented here.'
It said the United States supports Armenia's economic development, as well as opportunities to engage American companies and investors in various areas of the Armenian economy.
Hayk Aloyan, executive director of Lydian Armenia said in June this year that the company will produce first gold in 2024.
Amulsar gold mine is Armenia's second–largest gold mine in terms of pure gold reserves. It is located in the southeast of the country, 13 km from Jermuk resort town, between rivers Arpa and Vorotan. The deposit is said to contain about 31 million tons of ore and 40 tons of pure gold.
Lydian Armenia, (established in 2005 is a 100% subsidiary of Lydian Canada Ventures, owned by the American Orion Mine Finance and Canada's Osisko Gold Royalties.-0-
