YEREVAN, January 25. /ARKA/. The number of registered jobs that provide income, increased significantly in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, Karen Tamazyan, head of a State Revenue Committee's department in charge of tax administration and supervision, said at a press conference on Monday.

“In 2020 April, when the government banned some types of economic activity in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus, the number of registered employees dropped to 547 thousand from 620 thousand in March,” Tamazyan said.

However, according to him, on an annual basis, the average monthly number of officially registered workers was 609 thousand, up from 602 thousand in 2019.

'In 2018-2019, serious work had been done to improve the registration and accounting of jobs, as a result in 2020 statistics showed that business entities complied with tax discipline starting to realize that it is more profitable to register employees than to work in the shadows,' he said.

“I would like to note that according to 2020 September data, there were 632 thousand registered jobs in the country, the highest ever figure. Basically, the growth was recorded in the retail and wholesale trade, mining and information technology sectors,” Tamazyan said.

In his words, the entities that pay turnover tax are in the risk group. He said the companies which show profit but have no employees are fined to the tune of 250 thousand drams.

“After we officially notified of this about 100 taxpayers, their number of registered workers grew by 70 ,” Tamazyan said. ($1 - 518.44 drams). -0-
