Passenger traffic through Armenian airports grew by 28 percent this year

The passenger traffic through Armenia’s international airport Zvartnots in Yerevan and Shirak airport in Gyumri surged by 28.3% in the first four months of this year when compared to the same time span of 2016, to the overall 668 589 people, the chief of the General Department of the Civil Aviation of Armenia Sergey Avetisyan said today.
YEREVAN, May 3. /ARKA/. The passenger traffic through Armenia’s international airport Zvartnots in Yerevan and Shirak airport in Gyumri surged by 28.3% in the first four months of this year when compared to the same time span of 2016, to the overall 668 589 people, the chief of the General Department of the Civil Aviation of Armenia Sergey Avetisyan said today.
He said in 2016 there were quite impressive growth indicators and the dynamics of this year continues at the same pace.
During the reporting period, passenger traffic through the Zvartnots international airport in Yerevan increased by 25.7% to 649,400 people, while the passenger traffic through Shirak airport grew by 334% to 19,189 people. According to Avetisyan, the extraordinary growth is explained by the fact that no flights were operated through the airport Shirak in the first 4 months of 2016.
‘At the moment, 26 airlines operate flights through Armenian airports; on average there are 25-30 flights a day," he added.
Armenia has two operating airports – Zvartnots in Yerevan and Shirak in Gyumri, both run by Armenia - International Airports company in accordance with the 30-year concession management agreement signed with the Armenian government in 2001. Armenia - International Airports is owned by an Argentinean Armenian businessman Eduardo Eurnekian. -0-
