YEREVAN, June 15. /ARKA/. The founder of a popular Armenian food delivery service menu.am Vahan Kerobyan warned today that the service is likely to stop its work because of a government decision.
The government declined today a parliament-designed bill on reviewing taxes for companies involved in public catering, leaving in force the previous decision on imposing additional 16.67% tax on food delivering companies from January 1, 2019.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan proposed that the additional tax should be discussed later with all interested parties.
According to Kerobyan, menu.am cooperates with some 500 restaurants and public catering companies employing 250 couriers, paying also about 15 million drams in taxes a month.
"Our couriers pay another 5 million drams, but the decision of the government can cause the closure of the service, as it would require that restaurants pay additional tax of 16.67% for food delivery, which means that cooperating with menu .am would be unprofitable for them," he said.
Kerobyan noted that this decision would affect not only the menu.am, but also other food delivery services. He also noted that menu.am will have to cease its activity in Armenia and move its offices to other countries. Kerobyan promised to call a press conference to present all the aspects of this problem. -
