YEREVAN, June 24 /ARKA/. Armenian government officials are afraid of big investors, Gagik Makaryan, the chairman of the National Union of Employers said last week during a debate on the problems and investment opportunities, which was part of a ceremony to launch business development platform #Գործարա®.
According to him, large investments simply frighten government representatives, who fear they will be unable to bear responsibility for such amounts. According to him, the fear stems from lack of professionalism and experience.
This is a problem not only of the government, but of the entire state. Armenia should not be afraid of investments in the amounts exceeding its annual budget, he said. According to Makaryan, this situation is due to the fact that the government has no mechanisms for the implementation of investment activities.
"Therefore, it is necessary to create a unified system model. I propose that a single register for investors be created that will clearly show the scale and importance of the investor. And after that the government will have to support the investor from receiving permits to launching the business," he said
According to the National Statistical Committee, net foreign direct investment in the real sector of Armenia in the first quarter of 2019 amounted to 3.7 billion drams ($7.6 million) against 40.7 billion drams ($83.6 million) in the first quarter of 2018 of the year. -0
