YEREVAN, December 24. /ARKA/. A livestock registration and numbering program will be implemented in Armenia, Deputy Economy Minister Tigran Gabrielyan told reporters on Tuesday. He said the ministry plans to present the program as early as 2020.
He said without taking stock of all livestock it is impossible to implement development programs. Besides, the program is supposed to enable a more effective control of livestock diseases.
The deputy minister mentioned also the smart cattle-breeding farms project, realized in 2019. According to him, out of 200 applications 165 were pre-selected, and 104 received certificates and the right to participate in the program.
"Contracts have already been concluded with 23 beneficiaries. Two have already received compensation for building model farms," Gabrielyan said.
In early April 2019 the government of Armenia approved an assistance program for construction, reconstruction and technological re-equipment of small and medium-sized "smart cattle-breeding farms". The goal of the program is help farmers increase their productivity. In 2019-2021 some 3.2 billion drams are to be invested in the construction of 230 "smart" farms.
According to Gabrielyan, in 2019, a cattle breeding program for the purchase of pedigree cattle was implemented with the government financing loan interests. As a result, the interest rate decreased to 2%.
"We tried to increase the number of pedigree cattle and helped import 300 pedigree cows," said Gabrielyan, adding that if the yield of an ordinary cow is about 2 thousand liters of milk per year, the pedigree cow yields up to 6 thousand liters per year.
Another program is aimed at developing sheep breeding. It provides for the return of 23% of the money spent on import of more than 100 sheep. He said more than 200 breeding sheep have been already imported. –0--
