Investigation into Spayka case underway- SRC

The investigation into Armenia's leading freight and agribusiness company Spayka has not been completed, however, the company has paid one billion drams to the budget in evaded import taxes, according to Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee Edward Hovhannisyan.
YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. The investigation into Armenia's leading freight and agribusiness company Spayka has not been completed, however, the company has paid one billion drams to the budget in evaded import taxes, according to Deputy Chairman of the State Revenue Committee Edward Hovhannisyan.
Earlier, the State Revenue Committee had accused the head of Spayka David Ghazaryan of tax and customs duties evasion to the tune of more than 7 billion drams (more than $14.4 million).
According to Hovhannisyan, measures are being taken to ascertain the full extent of the damage caused to the state budget, and since the measures are complex and voluminous, it will take a long time.
He said as a result of recalculations at the moment the damage caused to the state along with fines is estimated at about 10 billion drams.
On April 8, a lower court in Yerevan allowed Ghazaryan's arrest. On April 30, the Court of Appeal rejected his lawyer's request for his release on bail. However, later Ghazaryan was released from custody after the recovery of one billion drams (about $ 2.1 million).

Earlier, Ghazaryan denied the accusations arguing that the 5.5 billion drams of the alleged amount of evaded taxes were VAT that must be returned to the company in accordance with the legislation.
