YEREVAN, August 13. /ARКА/. Flights to Europe are planned from Shirak Airport in Gyumri, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan said during a working visit to Shirak Province.

“We already have an agreement with one airline and, within the framework of the state subsidy program, flights to a new destination – Europe – will probably be launched in the near future, which will provide the city and the province with additional traffic and economic progress,” Armenpress quotes Khudatyan as saying.

Gyumri’s Shirak Airport, the second-largest in Armenia, has been operating since 1961. The airport is located 5 km from Gyumri and 120 km from Yerevan. The airport's runway is 3,220 m long and 45 m wide. In 2007, the General Department of Civil Aviation under the Government of Armenia awarded Shirak Airport the status of an ICAO Class I airport.-0-
