YEREVAN, March 25. /ARKA/. The leader of the opposition Prosperous Armenia party Gagik Tsarukyan called on the government today saying it must declare tax amnesty for all citizens in order to mitigate the critical situation that has emerged after the government declared state of emergency to stop the spread of coronavirus.
Tsarukyan said as many as 200 thousand families survive on their daily wages of 5-7 thousand drams and many are likely to be laid off, which is fraught with significant social difficulties.
According to Tsarukyan, the government should consider the issue of compensation for citizens who are forced out of work, restructuring of loans, or their deferment as well as delay of utility bills. Tsarukyan described the government’s appeal to the banks to display 'individual approach' to every borrower as 'ridiculous and unreasonable.”
"How can the banks arrange meetings with one and a half million borrowers? Even if the branches throughout the country spend 10 minutes on each customer, they will not be able to accept more than 50 people a day. How many years will it them to show individual approach in these emergency conditions?" wondered Tsarukyan.
Tsarukyan said the revision of the government strategy is necessary to avoid serious social upheavals and even massive public discontent.
Members of the party's parliamentary faction said the government must take urgent measures to overcome inflation, revise the restriction on the movement of citizens.
The parliamentarians also expressed concern about the appearance of low-quality medical products in the market , pointing out the need for strict measures to curb such entrepreneurial activity.
Armenia declared a 30-day state of emergency on March 16 in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus . As of March 25, 265 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Armenia . 16 people recovered and were discharged from hospitals; no deaths were recorded. -0-
