Armenian law to separate wholesale distribution and retail sale of medicines
YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. Armenia's anti-trust agency said today companies engaged in wholesale distribution of medicines will not be allowed to be engaged in retail sales of drugs.

The State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC) said several large companies engaged in import and wholesale distribution of medicines also own retail chains.

It said this practice may create problems in terms of counteracting and preventing anti-competitive activities.

It said wholesale distribution and retail sales of drugs will be regulated by legal acts separating both activities, which will have 'a positive impact on the competitive environment.' In particular, an opportunity will be created to detect and prevent discriminatory manifestations in relation to other economic entities.

“Thus, a person who has a license for the wholesale distribution of medicines during its period of validity (including during the termination of the license) will not be able to carry out pharmacy activities as prescribed by law, unless a separate legal entity is established that has a license allowing it to engage in retail sale of drugs", the SCPEC said. -0-
