Armenian customs officers thwart 1253 attempts of tomato smuggling

Armenia’s State Revenue Committee said today its customs officers have thwarted numerous attempts of smuggling agricultural products, mainly tomatoes, to the country this year.
YEREVAN, April 6. /ARKA/. Armenia’s State Revenue Committee said today its customs officers have thwarted numerous attempts of smuggling agricultural products, mainly tomatoes, to the country this year.
According to a statement of the committee, up to April 5, its employees have thwarted 153 attempts to smuggle in about 15 tons of agricultural products, mainly tomatoes.
"The lawbreakers tried to transport the tomatoes in special caches prepared in the cars in order to avoid customs clearance, however, all such attempts were stopped," the committee said.
The State Revenue Committee said there is a 24-hour supervision at the border to prevent illegal imports of agricultural products. -0--
