YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Armenia’s anti-trust agency has accused a local company called Avitsa of unfair competition saying it imported a large batch of eggs from Russia and tried to sell them as local product at below market prices, ‘thereby forming an atmosphere of unfair competition.’

According to a statement by the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition (SCPEC), the company provided false information to tax authorities about the price of eggs, which were being sold across Armenia without tax statements, labeling or with false labels.

More precisely, in August and September 2016 the company imported from Russia 1.9 million eggs as well as 39,990 kg of chicken meat and 269,450 kg of wheat. The imported products were stored at a poultry farm in the village of Myasnikyan in Armavir region.

After scrutinizing the data available at the State Revenue Committee the SCPEC found that eggs were delivered to Nor Zovk stores at 27 drams apiece, including VAT. After an action taken by the State Revenue Committee, the rest of the imported eggs were sold at 46 drams apiece, including VAT.

The SCPEC said also the investigation  found that the eggs supplied to Nor Zovk stores were labeled as products of Gndevaz poultry farm in Armenian Vayots Dzor region.

Besides, the company also claimed that it sold 43,600 kg of wheat to the poultry farm at 90 drams per 1 kg. The investigation found, however, that the poultry farm had stopped operating long before.

‘The fate of the rest of the wheat is unknown: there is no wheat at the company’s warehouses. We are working to determine its whereabouts,’ the SCPEC said.

Avitsa is owned by Armen Khachatryan. He also owned Andre Renteria Ltd. and Local companies, which were engaged in the production of poultry meat and eggs. As of September 16, the first company’s tax liabilities stood at about 41.9 million drams, and those of the second – at about 35 million drams.  ($ 1 - 473.86 drams). -0-
