Armenian authorities ready to cooperate with Philip Morris International in science
YEREVAN, April 18. /ARKA/. The Armenian government is ready to discuss with Philip Morris International (PMI) future programs and initiatives for cooperation in scientific research projects, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Tuesday at a meeting with PMI Senior Vice President Gregoire Verdeaux.
According to the government press service, Pashinyan noted that the Armenian government has initiated a broad anti-smoking campaign, and the work in this direction is ongoing.
The PM underscored the implementation of research programs in Armenia by Philip Morris International, by its research center, as the technological and scientific innovations can contribute to reducing the harm caused by smoking.
On March 15, 2022, Armenia banned smoking in cafes, restaurants and other public catering facilities, including outdoors.
Philip Morris International (PMI) is one of the world's leading tobacco companies and its current product portfolio consists mainly of cigarettes and smokeless products. PMI intends to increase its share of revenue from smokeless products to 50% by 2025, with the ultimate goal of completely phasing out cigarettes. -0-
