YEREVAN, September 5. /ARKA/. The registration of Armenian brandy as a product with a geographical indication, aimed at ensuring its superior quality, was a topic of discussion at a seminar held in Tsaghkadzor, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy.

Specifically, the discussions included draft technical specifications for the product designated as "Armenian Brandy," the objectives of the Armenian brandy producers' association, the logo representing the geographical indication, and the marketing strategy for the association of producers of products with a geographical indication.

Deputy Ministers of Economy Arman Khojoyan and Anushik Avetyan highlighted the significance of this program for the ongoing sustainable development of agriculture, particularly within the cognac production sector, as well as for market diversification.

Additionally, it was suggested to organize current efforts around key priorities, particularly focusing on implementing systematic actions to enhance quality control of the products manufactured.

Previously, Armenia announced its decision to phase out the name "Armenian cognac" in favor of the new designation, Armenian brandy. The European Union has allocated 2.9 million euros to support Armenia in this transition.

According to the Ministry of Economy, under the terms of a previously signed agreement, Armenia has pledged to gradually discontinue the use of these geographical names concerning the locally produced alcoholic beverages. In accordance with EU regulations, only alcoholic beverages produced in specific regions of France can be labeled as "cognac" and "champagne.".-0-
