YEREVAN, June 11. /ARKA/. The government of Armenia has approved today a cattle recording and numbering program.
Economy Minister Tigran Khachatryan said the complete inventory will help to have a clear idea of the number of livestock, their location, movement, provision of veterinary services, and will also greatly facilitate control over the possible spread of diseases. It will also increase the level of safety of animal products.
He said the program provides for the creation of an electronic database of cattle stock, which is scheduled to be launched this year.
He said in the first year of the program, some 800,000 cattle are to be recorded and numbered throughout the country. In his words, this requires 1.6 million ear tags (two for each animal). Later, some 250,000 tags are to be bought every year.
According to him, the total cost of the program, designed for 2020-2023, is 1.4 billion drams, of which 750 million drams are planned to be allocated for this year, and 230 million drams for each subsequent year.
The program consists of two components - the purchase of the necessary equipment, as well as services and data digitization. The minister said if the program is successfully implemented, it will be extended to other domestic animals. ($1 - 481.03 drams) -0-
