Armenia starts vaccination of farm animals against foot and mouth disease

YEREVAN, February 15. /ARKA/. The Armenian Center for Agricultural Services said today it will start soon the vaccination of all farm animals in the country against foot and mouth disease.

Vaccine distribution plans will be sent to epidemiologists, and then veterinarians will begin vaccinating both cattle and small ruminants.

Throughout the year, more than a million cattle, sheep and goats are to be vaccinated. According to Armenian Center for Agricultural Service, the increase in the number of cattle and small ruminants is due to the transportation of cows and sheep from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia.

According to Levon Yegoyan, the head of the veterinary medicine and phytosanitary department of the Center for Agricultural Services, as of January 1, 2021, there were about 600,000 cattle in Armenia, including 261,000 dairy cows and about 666,000 sheep and goats.

In addition to the planned vaccinations, also diagnostic and preventive measures will be carried out for all farm animals.

The vaccination and other preventive measures are free of charge for rural residents. --0--
