Armenia proposes exempting imported poultry feed products from excise duties

YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/. Armenian Economy Ministry proposes expanding the list of goods exempted from VAT payments, which are not subject to excise tax when imported.

Deputy Minister of Economy Rafael Gevorgyan said these are the goods (mainly corn and soybeans),

which are used for preparing feed for poultry farms, and VAT exemption would create more favorable and competitive conditions for local producers.

He noted that Armenia has to import poultry meat to meet the demand and the proposed changes are necessary to secure high level self-sufficiency.

The Deputy Minister also noted that the cost of imported goods is included in the cost of the final product. Consequently, the proposed chnages are more likely not about VAT exemption, but about deferral of tax payments. -0-
