Armenia presents "dry port" project to Dubai DP World
YEREVAN, February 14. /ARKA/. .A delegation of DP World, an Emirati multinational company based in Dubai and specialized in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, may visit Armenia this spring under a preliminary agreement reached during today's meeting of Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan with DP World Chief Operating Officer Chuck Heath in Dubai.
Kerobyan and Chuck Heath discussed prospects of cooperation in the framework of a project aiming to create, develop and manage a "dry port" in Armenian Gyumri, which borders Georgia and Turkey, the press service of the Armenian Economy Ministry reported.
Kerobyan said earlier that the "dry port" (industrial park) would resolve one of the most important problems - the country's poor logistical connection with the world.
"The industrial parks are created to provide industrial companies with necessary infrastructures. They serve also as logistic centers, terminals for containers, which are used to transfer cargo from one mode of transport to another with minimum costs," the minister said.
The "dry port" project was preliminary approved by the Investment Committee under the Prime Minister. The "dry port" when built will be in the country’s second-largest town of Gyumri, located near the local airport and the railroad.
The airport will have the status of a free economic zone. The 'port' will have also distribution centers, small and medium enterprises, and an international food market. -0-
