Armenia’s government intends to provide farmers who suffered from hail with the required quantity of seeds and young transplants, the government press service reported.
YEREVAN, May 16. /ARKA/. Armenia’s government intends to provide farmers who suffered from hail with the required quantity of seeds and young transplants, the government press service reported.
The government discussed the damage caused by hailstorm to a number of the country’s rural communities at its meeting Wednesday.
The minister of agriculture Sergo Karapetyan reported that the hail affected a total of 17,000 hectares of crops in 43 communities. The special community commission are now clarifying the size of the damage.
Vineyards suffered the highest damage, so did fruit trees, the minister said.
Repeated sowing will help to recover damaged vegetables and watermelons. For this, seeds and young transplants will be given to farmers; some seeds may be imported from abroad, the minister said.
Fertilizers and diesel fuel will also be provided to farmers.
A government commission will study installation of antihail protection equipment and will prepare recommendations for its efficient use. -0-
