Armenian government to raise wages, pensions and create high-paying jobs

The Armenian government’s plan of actions envisages an increase in pensions and salaries, and creation of high-paying jobs, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said on Monday, presenting the government's program for 2013- 2017 to the National Assembly.

"In the near future we will create high-paying jobs through the full implementation of export-oriented industrial policy, launch of the funded pension system that will provide dignified old age to our citizens; we will also raise salaries," Sargsyan said.
According to official statistics, the average nominal salary in Armenia in March 2013 amounted to 143,318 drams, having increased by 2.5% compared to the same period last year. According to official statistics, the average pension at the end of 2012 was 29,689 drams.
"We will resume the operation of idle enterprises – if needed by replacing inefficient owners with skillful ones. We will also ensure a favorable business environment for small and medium-sized enterprises ", he added.
The new Armenian government was formed on May 8. Earlier chief of the government staff. Vache Gabrielian, said the government’s plan of actions will focus on five major directions- safe and secure Armenia, creation of new jobs with far wages, free and just Armenia, human capital and institutional development.
The plan of actions calls also for doubling the minimum wage, cutting poverty rate by 8-10 percent a year, creation of 100,000 new jobs and securing growth in pensions and increasing the share of taxes in the overall GDP.-0-
